Calitzdorp Tourism would like to thank
Theuns Coetzee and Beatrice Steyn Julies for travelling all the way to
Calitzdorp to come and inspire and motivate our residents.
We would also like to thank Cheryl De Villiers for the use of the old
station and the provision of coffee and tea. A huge thank you to all the
restaurants and individuals for the lovely snacks provided.
Lastly, but most importantly, we would like to thank all the residents
of Calitzdorp who attended the meeting, providing us with such
constructive input. It is a privilege to live in a town where there are
so many positive people.

Mr. Coetzee emphasised
that the dream is goal – driven and that it focuses on building the
community. The question is no longer how my municipality can serve me,
but how I can make a difference in my community. The primary focus of
the dream is the upgrading and beautification of the town and as a
result of that, secondary problems are automatically addressed like a
healthier community, lower crime rates, business growth, better social
conditions, job creation, etc.
The way in which goals will be achieved is to inspire communities,
motivate them and mobilise them to move into action. It is important to
draw together various institutions to form a united front, and then to
move over to shared goals. It is also essential to involve the media and
thereby achieve growth which holds commercial benefits. Everyone must be
task oriented thus purposely avoiding Politics. We want to encourage
residents to invest in themselves and their property by beautifying it.
Municipalities will also be involved to support the community with above
mentioned initiatives.
We would love to hear from you, which places in Calitzdorp you see as
problem areas so that we can work on those areas. We also want to ask
you to identify a personal project and come and share it with us at the
next meeting – how you plan to carry out the project and what we can do
to help you. Each project must be completed within a certain time frame,
thus a date must be linked to it. Mr. Coetzee will visit Calitzdorp
again in November to follow up.
